Acer shirasawanum

Yasemin

New cultivars:

Some newly offered cultivars MAY be added to our list after they leaf out around mid-April. Others, including small, rare, and hard to graft cultivars, may be added in September. Once a cultivar sells out, it remains so until the following spring.

Heat Stress

Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

Although tentatively called Acer shirasawanum, this may be a cross of Acer shirasawanum 'Palmatifolium' with--you guessed it--Acer palmatum 'Bloodgood'. The result is a beautifully-colored, slender, upright tree to about 30' tall and 10' wide. The leaves have long, deeply dissected, finely serrated lobes. Showy red fall color. The seeds stand upright, which is typical of a shirasawanum. Named for Mirte Yasemin van Gelderen, daughter and granddaugher of the owners of the famous maple nursery Firma Esveld, in Holland.

Size #3 trees are available beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. They are shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.

Orders placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter, but read this to see if it's a good idea for you.
