Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

A strange cultivar whose name means "Lonely Man". The unusual part is the leaf, which may have either 3 or 5 lobes, each one a different shape. On 3-lobed leaves, the center one predominates, and the other two are tiny spurs at the base, inspiring, I suppose, the name. The lobes themselves may have different degrees of incision and serration. Vertrees perfectly describes the resulting appearance as pleasingly "tattered". This effect is not very visible in the photograph, but develops more on older leaves, which become more elongated and toothed. New foliage is often edged in orange-red, and the fall color is scarlet. This is a small shrub to 5'. It is reasonably vigorous, having survived in cultivation since at least 1710.

Size
#2 trees are available
beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. Starting in November,
they can be shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very
limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.

Orders
placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster
service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
but read this to see if
it's a good idea for you. |
