Plant Size
As the picture above illustrates, it's hard to make generalizations about plant size. It depends on the plant, the time of year, how long since propagation, and several other factors. All we can say is that most will be of a size that's reasonable for what nurseryfolk call 4-inch containers (they're actually a bit smaller), though a few small-statured plants, such as ground orchids and small Trilliums, may be in 2" containers. During the spring rush, we try to ship only those sizes, although a few large or fast-growing species may be in 5" (2 quart) pots. After mid-June, when we have more time to spend packing each order, we may introduce larger sizes, but our plants are never larger than gallon-size. In some cases, plants grown in gallon containers may be repotted into smaller ones for shipping, in order to offset the significant shipping surcharge all carriers add for boxes that are of large dimension but low weight.
