New
cultivars:
Some newly offered cultivars MAY be added to our list after they leaf out
around mid-April. Others, including small, rare, and hard to graft cultivars,
may be added in September. Once a cultivar sells out, it remains so until
the following spring.
Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.
A spectacularly variegated semi-dwarf cultivar, with lots of pink and white in every combination. The variegation occurs on a majority of the smallish, twisted leaves, which have a base color of glossy green. Similar to 'Asahi zuru'' but faster-growing. 'Orido' is a stunner that will brighten up a position in afternoon shade. Although there is extra white and pink on the tree during periods of new growth, the basic variegation holds all year until bursting into orange glory in the fall, earning the name that means "the rich-colored fabric of the master." A vigorous grower. Van Gelderen says this cultivar is the same as 'Versicolor'.
