Stress
Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

'Johin' is the result of an interspecific cross between Acer shirasawanum and Acer palmatum, so it's proper name is Acer x 'Johin', and it could be called a Red Full Moon maple. The A. shirasawanum parentage can be seen in the long, shallowly dissected, creased lobes, with the red color lent by the A. palmatum parent. Particulars on this tree are hard to come by, since it is newly created, but it seems vigorous, so will probably be larger than the standard A. palmatum. Some A. shirasawanums can reach 30'. It may also be hardier than the typical palmatum, which bottoms out at zone 5. Introduced by Buchholz Nursery in Oregon, who now call it Acer shirasawanum. Size
#1 trees ship after they leaf out, usually early to mid-April. |

Size
#3 trees are available
beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. They are shipped bare-root
to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars
are not available in this size. |
Orders
placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster
service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter,
but read this to see if
it's a good idea for you. |
