Coonara Pygmy

New cultivars:

Some newly offered cultivars MAY be added to our list after they leaf out around mid-April. Others, including small, rare, and hard to graft cultivars, may be added in September. Once a cultivar sells out, it remains so until the following spring.

Heat Stress

Maples ordered in summer may have burned leaves, and look bad, but this is only temporary. Still, spring and especially fall are far better times to ship and plant than summer. We'll delay shipments when temperatures exceed 90 F.

An unusual dwarf from Australia. It grows quite vigorously for the first year or two, then slams into the end of its rope. At the end of its first year, it is often larger than cultivars that will someday reach 30', but will stop at 3-5'. The new growth produces normal-sized leaves, but on older wood the leaves are much smaller. Summer leaves are light to medium green with pink tips. In fall, a good deep red. Tends to form a ball. Suitable for rock gardens, but may not be as long-lived as other cultivars. A similar cultivar, but with yellow to orange fall color is 'Matthew'.

Size #1 trees ship after they leaf out, usually early to mid-April.

Size #3 trees are available beginning September 1, and can be ordered until March 1. They are shipped bare-root to save shipping costs. These trees are in very limited supply; many cultivars are not available in this size.

Orders placed between mid-March and mid-June may take 3 weeks to ship. For faster service, order in the fall, an excellent time to plant. We can ship in winter, but read this to see if it's a good idea for you.
